Terms of Use

Last updated: July 27, 2026

These Terms of Use govern your access to the OpenLab Science website and virtual physics lab. By using the Service, you agree to these terms.

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using https://www.openlabscience.com (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Permitted use

You may use the Service through a normal web browser for educational purposes — exploring simulations, running guided investigations, and learning physics. The simulation sandbox, all 138 guided investigations, and their printable lab sheets are provided free of charge.

3. Classroom and teacher use

Teachers, instructors, tutors, and parents may use the Service with their students free of charge and without asking permission — with any number of classes, an entire department, or a whole school or district. You may run simulations and guided investigations with students in class or remotely; print, photocopy, and hand out OpenLab lab sheets to your own students; adapt or excerpt a lab sheet to suit your own students; link to any page on the Service from a course page, syllabus, learning-management system, or library guide; and share answer keys with colleagues teaching the same course. No written license, purchase, or notification is required for any of this. Paid OpenLab plans, where offered, cover optional teacher workflow tools such as assignment delivery and grading — never access to the simulations or the lab sheets.

4. Prohibited use

Beyond the classroom uses granted in Section 3, and without prior written permission from OpenLab Science, you may not republish, mirror, or redistribute the Service or its content; sell or resell OpenLab content, or include it in a paid product, paid resource listing, or paid course; white-label the Service or present it as your own; remove copyright or attribution notices; or scrape, bulk-download, or use automated tools to extract content at scale.

5. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, tutorial text, curated experiment presets, curriculum design, graphics, and the "OpenLab Science" name and logo, is owned by OpenLab Science and protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws. No license is granted except as expressly stated in these Terms.

6. Commercial use and licensing

Commercial use — reselling OpenLab content, bundling it into a paid product or course, white-labeling the Service, or redistributing it as part of a commercial offering — requires a separate written license. Teaching use is not commercial use for this purpose: classroom, school, and district use needs no license regardless of scale, including at tuition-charging and private schools. To request a commercial license, email contact@openlabscience.com.

7. AI features

OpenLab Science offers a built-in free AI tutor for in-lab questions; requests are processed by a third-party AI provider. Some features also let you connect your own third-party AI provider (bring your own API key). OpenLab Science does not guarantee the accuracy, safety, or appropriateness of AI-generated text or scene commands. You are responsible for your API usage and for reviewing AI output before relying on it.

8. Educational disclaimer

OpenLab Science is designed for middle- and high-school physics education. Simulations prioritize pedagogical clarity over research-grade numerical accuracy. Do not rely on the Service for safety-critical, engineering, or examination decisions without independent verification.

9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OPENLAB SCIENCE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
